As part of The Sultan’s School’s ongoing commitment to broadening students’ academic horizons and preparing them for higher education, the School welcomed Mr Jamie Fraser from the University of Edinburgh’s Admissions Office on 11 October for an informative session with the Class of 2027. The session aimed to guide students through the university application process and introduce them to the opportunities available at universities across the United Kingdom.
During the session, students explored the application process for UK universities through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). They also learned about the University of Edinburgh’s entry requirements, the key stages involved in submitting an application, and the importance of early preparation and careful academic planning when selecting a university and future area of study.
Students also had the valuable opportunity to hear first-hand experiences from The Sultan’s School graduates who are currently studying at the University of Edinburgh. The graduates shared insights into university life, their experiences throughout the application process, and the challenges and opportunities they encountered when transitioning from school to higher education. Their advice offered students a practical perspective on preparing for university and making informed decisions about their academic futures.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop a deeper understanding of the academic environment in the UK, gain greater awareness of university expectations, and explore educational pathways aligned with their interests, strengths, and long-term ambitions. The session also encouraged active participation, with students asking thoughtful questions and engaging in meaningful discussions about university courses, admission requirements, application preparation, and the transition to university life.
