It is an enormous honour and privilege to serve as Principal of The Sultan’s School.

Founded in 1977, the School has a proud history and a very special place within Oman. As we approach our 50th anniversary, we have an opportunity not only to celebrate everything the School has achieved, but also to consider what the next chapter of its story should look like.

The Sultan’s School is blessed with an extraordinary campus, impressive facilities and a long tradition of academic success. However, what makes a school truly exceptional is not its buildings or examination results alone. It is the people within it and the relationships they build.

Since joining the School, I have spent a great deal of time visiting classrooms and speaking with students and staff. I have been enormously impressed by the professionalism, warmth and commitment of our teachers, and by the genuine care they show for the young people they teach. I have also discovered that Sultan’s students are thoughtful, confident and certainly not short of opinions, something I consider to be a very healthy sign.

We want every student to be known, valued and appropriately challenged. Academic achievement matters because it opens doors and creates opportunities, but education must be about more than examinations. It should help young people develop curiosity, resilience, creativity, confidence and a strong sense of responsibility towards others.

Our students should leave The Sultan’s School well prepared for university and the world beyond it, but they should also leave as principled and compassionate young people who understand their identity, appreciate the culture and values of Oman, and recognise their responsibility to contribute positively to their communities.

As someone who has spent much of my career in international education, I understand the importance of combining an outward-looking, global perspective with a genuine respect for a school’s national identity and traditions. The Sultan’s School is proudly Omani and confidently international. That combination is one of its greatest strengths.

Strong schools are built through partnership. Students, staff, parents, alumni and the wider community all have an important part to play. I am committed to listening carefully, communicating openly and working collaboratively, even when we may not always agree on everything.
